How on Earth did we narrow down more than 8 million Flybuys legends to find our 50?
TnC Body

We started by scanning our database for members who show off the Flybuys attitude in all sorts of ways – not just the points-rich. After crunching the numbers, running opt-in surveys and doing rounds of interviews to learn more about them, we found 50 members who are stacking points like there’s no tomorrow. Our 50 members sent us in their snazzy selfies so we could put a face to the names, and 10 lucky members got to be a part of a fancy photoshoot. Think you’re Flybuys 50 material, too? Keep playing the points game and you could be in the running for 2023!

BRET

from Gobbagombalin, NSW

“Collecting points on almost everything but the mortgage.”

Creating a succession plan isn’t so easy. But Bret’s got a tip that he’s willing to share: it’s a nest egg that’s chockas with points. His kids have already mastered the skill of hunting down the blue tag in Coles and Bunnings. When they’re ready, they’ll get their very own card.

In the meantime, Bret’s enlisted his wife to help build their family points fortune. Their approach is simple. The same spending habits, just with a new way to pay. These days, Bret reckons they pay for everything but the kitchen sink with their Coles Rewards Credit Card.

Q: What’s your secret to success?
A: My wife and I made the switch to pretty much paying for everything except the mortgage with our Coles Rewards Credit Card, which has definitely given us the advantage in collecting points. I enjoy when new partners are brought on so I can see if I can take advantage of their offers.

Q: So does your wife get around collecting Flybuys points too?
A: Yeah! We’ve got the cards linked to each other and they’re connected to the same account. I always make sure she’s scanning her card so we can get as many points as we can.

Q: How does Flybuys fit into your life? Any benefits you’re busting to share?
A: We have our car insurance, home insurance, credit card and anything else we can collecting points. So much so that I have a separate section on my Excel budget that separates my Flybuys purchases… it's ridiculous, I know! The best moment recently is when Bunnings became a partner. We spend so much there that it was like, “Holy heck, yes… can't wait to earn all those points there too!”

Q: How do you usually redeem your points?
A: We’ve gone on a couple of trips in Australia – nowhere extravagant, just a few getaways here and there. And Flybuys dollars pretty much pays for all our fuel.

Q: Are you starting your kids early on the Flybuys game
A: Yeah, the boys are already onto it. We typically go to Bunnings and Coles, so they’ll see the blue tags on the shelves and get excited. That’s the beauty of Flybuys. We can have one account and multiple cards. So when the kids are ready, it’ll be kind of like, “Here’s your Flybuys card, my son.”

Q: What advice would you give to a new Flybuys member who wants to follow in your footsteps?
A: At the very, very beginning, I couldn’t see the point of collecting Flybuys points. And here I am almost eight years later. You don’t need to change your spending habits to get points. All we did was start paying with a Coles Rewards Credit Card and made sure we scanned everything. That’s it! Simple.
