We started by scanning our database for members who GAF in all sorts of ways – not just the points-rich. Then after crunching the numbers, running opt-in surveys and rounds of interviews to learn more about them, we found 50 members at the top of their points game. Then our 50 members sent us in their snazzy selfies so we could put a face to the names and 10 lucky members got to be a part of a fancy photoshoot. Think you're Flybuys 50 material, too? When Emma joined the program back in 1998, nobody could predict her rise to fame and Flybuys fortune. But 23 years and millions of points later, The Master is truly at the top of her game. The app, offers, emails, surveys, competitions, discount dockets – she's mastered them all. If only her sons would remember to take their Flybuys card when they fill up at Coles Express, she'd be happy!
It's in The Master's nature to be generous – she just wants everyone to share in her success. So when she finds herself with too many points, she redeems for other people, helping them out when they need it.
Q: What's your secret to success?
A: I have to admit, it's a great card, that's why I'm so good at it. I
scan it every single day. Religiously. I'm either at Coles, Target or
Kmart, or filling up with fuel at Coles Express, but every single
day I'm using it.
Q: How does it feel to be part of the Flybuys 50?
A: When I got the phone call for the flybuys 50, I actually didn't
believe it. I nearly fell off my chair. My son heard me scream
because I was so excited!
Q: What advice would you give to a new Flybuys member who
wants to follow in your footsteps?
A: My advice is to get a card and use it like I do. I wake up every
morning and open every email that's sent to me, activate
everything, and scan it at every opportunity.
Q: What's do your family and friends think of your Flybuys
career?
A: They think I'm a bit weird and I use it too much. But I tell
everyone to get it, because I want them to benefit like I do. I
actually won a million points in a competition last year, and I took
my friend on a shopping spree to Coles for groceries. When I
have extra points, I do like to help other people. It's in my nature.
Q: Would you say you've mastered the program? Or do you
have anything left to learn?
A: To be honest, up until a couple of years ago, I actually didn't
realise that you can go through Coles Express and collect points
on petrol. I had no idea you could do that… so that's a new thing
I've learnt. Now I do it all the time, me and my kids.
Q: You've been a member for 23 years. What inspires you to
keep collecting every day?
A: The thrill of the game. Flybuys, it's like a challenge for me. I like
to accumulate points.
